Whole Clinics began as a quiet revolution in healthcare.

Fifty years ago in Boulder, Colorado, Owen Marcus began studying directly with the founders of somatic therapies, such as Ron Kurtz and Peter Levine—true pioneers in body-based healing. He brought this specialized knowledge to Scottsdale, Arizona, where his Rolfing practice expanded into a comprehensive integrative clinic, uniting the expertise of Rolfers, nutritionists, physicians, cranial osteopaths, and massage therapists.

From this foundation, Whole Clinics emerged.

WC merged with the Scottsdale Institute of Health and Medicine (SIHM), co-founded by Owen. SIHM became the first organization to introduce Jon Kabat-Zinn’s Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) to hospital systems, corporations, and the general public—long before “mindfulness” entered the mainstream vocabulary. SIHM continues to offer these transformative programs today.

In 1995, Whole Clinics began offering complimentary men’s groups to the local community, igniting a movement:

• By 1996, Owen co-founded the first men’s group in Northern California’s Sonoma and Napa counties.
• In 2005, he reimagined the model by incorporating somatic practices, establishing the Sandpoint Men’s Group, which now boasts over 500 past or current members.
• These groundbreaking groups formed the foundation for three national organizations dedicated to men’s emotional development.

In 2024, Owen and his core team evolved their collective work from EVRYMAN into a new venture: MELD, an innovative community fostering men’s emotional leadership and embodied development.

Today, Whole Clinics functions primarily as a virtual venture, serving as a trusted resource hub and referral network. We continue to support individuals and practitioners alike while facilitating select international retreats, such as transformative couples retreats, where integrative healing comes alive in person.
